Abstract

Entrepreneurial orientation is an important resource for an SME to compete and grow in an ever-changing business environment nowadays. The current study investigates the effects of three components of entrepreneurial orientation, namely proactiveness, innovativeness, and risk taking, on the performance of SMEs in Vietnam, a transitional economy which has not received much attention in prior studies. The results of PLS-SEM analysis based on the data collected from 198 SMEs have shown that proactiveness and risk taking have significant positive effects on performance. These effects are moderated by the extent of dynamic environment. Unexpectedly, there is no empirical evidence to support the positive effect of innovativeness on business performance.
