Tóm tắt

Bài viết này nhằm mục đích tìm hiểu xem liệu sự lạc quan của các nhà quản lý có ảnh hưởng lên đòn bẩy tài chính của các doanh nghiệp Việt Nam hay không bằng cách sử dụng dữ liệu trong giai đoạn 2010–2016. Nhóm tác giả sử dụng cách tiếp cận mới để đo lường tâm lý lạc quan của nhà quản lý, đó là dựa vào sắc thái ngôn ngữ trong phần văn bản của báo cáo thường niên. Bằng phương pháp hồi quy hiệu ứng cố định trên dữ liệu dạng bảng, nghiên cứu tìm thấy các doanh nghiệp được điều hành bởi nhà quản lý lạc quan có một tỷ lệ nợ cao hơn, đồng thời có xu hướng gia tăng tài trợ nợ bên ngoài khi đối diện với tình trạng thâm hụt tài chính. Kết quả này phù hợp với các lý thuyết và bằng chứng thực nghiệm trước đây về hành vi tài trợ tuân theo lý thuyết trật tự phân hạng khi nhà quản lý có xu hướng quá lạc quan. Kết quả của nghiên cứu này cũng hàm ý cho các nghiên cứu về sau, cũng như cho thị trường rằng: Việc xem xét các nhân tố có vai trò quan trọng đối với việc lựa chọn cấu trúc vốn không nên chỉ giới hạn trong khuôn khổ các nhân tố cơ bản mà cần lưu ý tới các đặc điểm tâm lý của nhà quản lý.
