Các nghiên cứu trước đây trên thế giới đã chỉ ra rằng mối quan hệ thể chế (Political Connection) có thể giúp doanh nghiệp (DN) có những ưu đãi hơn các DN khác. Với mẫu dữ liệu gồm các công ty cổ phần (CTCP) niêm yết trên Sở Giao dịch Chứng khoán Hà Nội (HNX) và Sở Giao dịch Chứng khoán TP.HCM (HOSE) từ năm 2009 đến năm 2013, và sử dụng phương pháp hồi quy dữ liệu bảng, tác giả tìm thấy bằng chứng mối quan hệ thể chế có thể giúp các DN cải thiện khả năng tiếp cận nguồn vốn vay, đặc biệt là vốn vay từ các ngân hàng thương mại nhà nước (NHTM NN). Kết quả này ủng hộ giả thuyết cho rằng mối quan hệ thể chế giúp DN hưởng sự phân biệt đối xử nếu có, vượt qua những trở ngại về mặt pháp lí, giảm các rào cản và bất cân xứng thông tin, và từ đó làm gia tăng khả năng tiếp cận thị trường vốn của DN.
