Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between personality traits and work-family balance among tour guides in Vietnam using a higher-order construct approach. Personality traits are measured using the Big Five personality model, while work-family balance is conceptualized as an integrated construct that simultaneously captures both conflict and facilitation between work and family domains. The results of the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis based on data from 395 tour guides indicate that personality traits have a positive effect on work-family balance; specifically, the dimensions of openness to experience, neuroticism, conscientiousness, and extraversion have positive effects, whereas agreeableness has no statistically significant effect. The study provides additional empirical evidence on the influence of personality traits on work-family balance and offers implications for recruitment and human resource development in the travel industry.
