Mục đích của nghiên cứu nhằm làm rõ cơ chế tác động của kỳ vọng kết quả, cảm hứng lên ý định khởi sự kinh doanh xã hội qua ba thành tố của lý thuyết hành vi hoạch định, bao gồm: Chuẩn chủ quan, thái độ và nhận thức kiểm soát hành vi. Những mối quan hệ được kiểm chứng qua 178 sinh viên đã tham gia các chương trình hoặc sự kiện do các cộng đồng doanh nghiệp xã hội tổ chức. Kết quả phân tích PLS-SEM cho thấy mô hình có độ phù hợp đạt yêu cầu với dữ liệu nghiên cứu, đồng thời xác nhận các mối quan hệ đề xuất. Kết quả của nghiên cứu cũng xác nhận khả năng giải thích của lý thuyết hành vi hoạch định ứng dụng vào khởi sự kinh doanh xã hội. Điều bất ngờ từ kết quả nghiên cứu là thái độ, chứ không phải nhận thức kiểm soát hành vi gây ảnh hưởng mạnh đến ý định khởi sự kinh doanh xã hội, trong khi đó chuẩn chủ quan có ảnh hưởng khá khiêm tốn. Những phát hiện này giúp cho các nhà giáo dục và hoạch định chính sách có thêm các gợi ý quan trọng cho việc thúc đẩy ý định khởi sự kinh doanh xã hội với đối tượng sinh viên.
